Menopause, Migraines & Money
Over the years I have focused on how menopause, migraines and money all fall in line with each other during a time in a woman’s life where she is transitioning from a maiden/mother to the sage and wise grandmother. During this transition a woman’s body is changing subtly in many ways that seem to sneak up on her. On the topic of menopause, she begins to see a reduction in estrogen. Estrogen is a hormone that is responsible for the development of babies, for example. When God has decided that child-rearing days are winding down for the woman, even if she has never had children, the body starts to make adjustments, just like Mother Nature will turn leaves a beautiful shade of orange and red during the cooler months of autumn.
Indeed there is a reason and season for everything and menopause is a clear example of this. First it is an emotional time and estrogen is lessened and testosterone may seem to increase, although studies indicate that may not necessarily be the case. Migraines are headaches that put women to their knees, in the bed, pillow over their head and all lights out. One of my friends on Facebook and co-author in my upcoming first book Empowered Women of Social Media says she began experiencing migraines for the first time in her life when she was 43 years of age and she firmly believes that the headaches and changes in her fertility cycle (menopause) were directly connected.
Although not all migraines in a menopausal woman may be related, I believe the hormone shift can be part of headaches that appear during menopause. During this time in a woman’s life self-care is crucial to her life in every way. For high profile corporate CEO type of women, this becomes an area of life that is hard to navigate. For the stay at home mom who has since achieved balance in the home with children and making money, a shift in hormones can mean emotional turbulence. Emotional turbulence or loss of control in the corporate world are both situations where money are involved and thus all three of the “M”s must be nurtured during life transitions. Here are some tried but true ways to gently slip into moving from a 40 something to a new and improved 40 something.
First – DRINK more water. Sometimes we take advantage of this one sentence that has been told to us our entire life. Reactions include “I just don’t like water can I drink tea instead?” or “I have heard that too much water is bad.” Drink more good clean water. Sometimes adding lime or lemon juice to the water improves the taste, but don’t even focus on that. Just get a glass and turn it up. Imagine as you are drinking the water that you are infusing your body with a new life force. Inside of a water molecule is the beauty and perfection of who we are as humans. Water is life so drink it up into every cell of your body.
Secondly – Pencil in time for yourself. Go to the gym. But wait, as you go about doing your favorite things, during menopause, they may not feel as good as they once did before your body started to change so just do a little self-check with affirmations prior to starting. Say to yourself “I love going to the gym now that I am 10 years younger than I was yesterday” or “I am so agile that the more I run on the treadmill, the more strength I have to hike a mountain”. Self-talk during creating more “you” space will get you over the hump.
Thirdly – For migraines, don’t assume they are because of menopause but treat them like you would a child. Migraines like many other life imbalances can be the result of trapped energy or emotions that needs to be released in order for the pain to subside. As you may or may not of read in the Empowered Women of Social Media Book
(http://www.empoweredwomenofsocialmedia.com) my husband suffered incredible migraines until we changed his behavior patterns and food intake. It’s a simply as that. When starting a holistic regime, change your mind, change your behavior and change the food you eat. Every plant that God created has natural healing coded right into its very DNA structure. Think about that for a moment. Broccoli looks just like the air pockets in the lung and the inside of an amazing apple looks like your heart. This is because we are truly all one in harmony with nature. So DROP the processed food junk and go to an organic market where you can find food from the earth.
That’s all for this blog post. Please remember that your body, mind and soul all must work hand in hand through life transitions. Be smart and read what others are doing. Here is to your “Healthy Wealth”.
